Overview of TriNet’s Full Service HR Solutions

TriNet offers a suite of full-service HR solutions. It is recognized as a leader in the industry —  receiving accolades for the Highest User Adoption in the Mid-Market category and Leader in the Small Business category from G2 for Winter 2022 (attributed not least to its outstanding HR support). TriNet is one of the largest PEOs in the world, processing $55 billion in payroll in 2021 – the same year it acquired Zenefits, a leading HR services provider in the US. 

Instead of offering one-size-fits-all packages, TriNet promotes an ecosystem of services that can be combined into custom solutions to fit a company’s needs. In this respect, it near replaces the need for a dedicated HR manager within a company. These include payroll processing and HR management assistance through their digital platform, health insurance and benefits plans from a choice of national providers, compliance risk mitigation, management training, strategic HR consulting, and more.

A Professional Employer Organization (PEO) assists a growing business in expanding its workforce by becoming the ‘co-employer’ for employees and taking the administrative burden of HR, employment tax, and compliance off client companies. As a large PEO, TriNet stands out for its impressive range of insurance and benefits options. It offers plans through Aetna, Blue California, Kaiser Permanente, UnitedHealth Group, MetLife, Aflac, and Empower Retirement. It is able to provide a wide variety of comprehensive and premium-level plans, which can help attract high-level talent to smaller businesses. TriNet also offers 401(k) plans as well, often at lower-than-market rates.

The platform provides a total compensation statement for each employee, showing the value of their total package.

Businesses can expand their benefits offerings with the TriNet Enrich program, which helps to provide tax-optimized reimbursements for health care, family planning, education, disaster relief, travel, and adoption.

Payroll

TriNet provides a number of payroll administration tools for businesses and self-service tools for employees. Services include payroll processing for timely pay and direct deposit and debiting, e-pay stubs, W2 preparation, automatically updated invoices, and integration with accounting software. This helps to avoid complicated payroll issues, tax regulations, insurance coverage, and other matters typically better handled by a payroll company than an internal team, even one with HR functions.

A visual scheduler brings together all work schedules on the platform dashboard. Attendance and time worked can be tracked in real-time, as well as clock-in and clock-out time. The platform can analyze this data to give insights into the best ways to control payroll costs. Payroll information can also be sorted by department.

The employee self-service options allow team members to update their address info, download W2s, set up direct debit, track paid time off, and view pay stubs. Employees can upload scanned or digital receipts directly through the app, and record mileage. Once approved, expenses are automatically added to the payroll invoice. Expense account data can be pulled from bank accounts, CSV, and credit card data, and is also viewable directly via the app.

Human Resources

The TriNet service and platform help to manage routine HR tasks, and provide HR analytics data to administrators, see Platform Features (below) for more information on these. The online features are impressive, but for businesses wanting help with their overall HR strategy, customized training, and assistance with managing recruitment needs, TriNet offers a number of unique additional services.

TriNet offers a number of additional services to bolster their core PEO and payroll offerings. These include:

Connect 360

Connect 360 is an add-on service that connects businesses to specialized HR consultants that understand their specific needs, industry, and area of operation. They provide consultation on compensation, talent acquisition, payroll, benefits, performance management, HR policy, compliance, and employee relations. Connect 360 consultants are available for extended hours as well, so clients can ask questions even outside of normal business hours.

Human Capital Consulting

Another optional add-on is Human Capital Consulting. These workshops are conducted one-on-one with business owners or management and offer training on best practices in recruiting and onboarding, HR decisions and strategy, regulations, and employee retention. TriNet also provides a number of team coaching packages covering topics including performance management, learning management, leadership training, and career transition support.

Recruitment

For businesses with ongoing recruitment needs, a comprehensive recruitment service is available. This enables businesses to post on multiple, industry-specialized job boards via the TriNet platform, schedule interviews, and view the progress of each candidate as they move through interviews and assessments. TriNet even provides customized assessments and interview questions. All of these workflows can be customized to suit an organization’s needs. Background checks are available as an additional add-on.

Compliance

TriNet submits all payroll taxes and unemployment tax, and lets employees import their W2s directly into TurboTax. It also provides workplace safety programs such as management training, and a library of employee training videos and documentation. Risk management services are available to assess workplaces and identify compliance risks and safety hazards. Implementation and monitoring of necessary changes is also handled by TriNet.

As companies take on more employees, their Affordable Care Act (ACA) required insurance contributions can change. TriNet keeps companies ACA compliant by helping companies to whether they are classified as applicable large employers (ALE) and handling their strategy to meet those standards. ALE reporting is done automatically with data from the platform.

Workers’ Compensation Insurance

Optional workers’ compensation insurance is provided by an A+ rated carrier. A claims management team helps manage workers’ compensation claims, provides fraud prevention, brings access to highly rated physician’s networks and integrated medical care, and gives expedited claims handling. Workers’ compensation insurance is available as a pay-as-you-go, no deposit, no deductible plan as well.

The TriNet HR team can provide consultation on best practices to prevent employment claims, and how to best handle claims that are made. This includes training modules, handbooks, a resource library, and regionally compliant HR forms. Employment practices liability insurance (EPLI) is also available.

Platform

TriNet offers an impressively comprehensive platform bringing together HR management, payroll management, and benefits administration, both through the online portal and on apps for iPhone and Android. 

The platform features a workforce analytic dashboard displaying custom graphs and metrics showing performance indicators such as turnover, hires, tenure, and termination. It also identifies trends and patterns to produce actionable data for HR managers. Compensation benchmark reports compare company compensation with data from Salary.com to track competitiveness.

Analytics Data

The platform includes workforce analytics data that can be customized to provide the most information most pertinent to a business’s needs. Data can be downloaded as PDF, Excel, CSV, charts, graphs, and scorecards to easily present data to colleagues and make informed HR decisions. In addition, the platform can integrate payroll data with Quickbooks Online, Netsuite, Intacct, and Xero.

Performance management tools and over 500 professional education programs are available for managers through the platform. The platform also includes document management, so all documentation can be kept in one place.

The employee platform includes features for clock-in/clock-out, time off requests, tracking total work hours, viewing overtime, and tracking and submitting expenses. Employees are empowered to take control of their own benefits by comparing different programs and enrolling themselves directly through the app. New hires can take advantage of the platform to access onboarding information requests and next steps.
